This has been a pretty important year for me, Started off with confirmation my knees would need surgery, more than likely ending any chance of my dream career path, then came the A level exams which were stressful to say the least, followed by the knee surgery. Knees are now improving slowly and surely since the summer surgery, and the exams went well enabling me to take my place at university, which I can honesty say has been the best 10 weeks of my life so far, and to make things better I'm not even doing that badly grade wise so have decided to go for the study abroad scheme which will see me going to america for the 2nd year. Onwards and upwards

I feel guilty posting this after reading some of the other posts. Stay strong everyone and I sincerely hope 2011 is an improvement for you.

2010 has been possibly my best year ever. I decided last Christmas it was time for a change, handed my notice in in January and left work in May. I've spent the last 6 months cycling 6000 miles across Canada and the US. I'm the fittest I've ever been and haven't weighed this little since I was 18! The trip was amazing and has done me so much good. Hopefully I've come back a better person, much less materialistic and more generous. I kept a journal which friends and family have been been reading and I've heard more from some of them because of that than I have for years. Now the hard work of deciding what I want to do next and finding a job starts. I think 2011 will be interesting...

..as in interesting times'? I think I'll decide whether 2010 was a good year after 2011. Everything is relative.

BEN: You lucky, lucky bastard.
BRIAN: What?
BEN: Proper little jailer's pet, aren't we?
BRIAN: What do you mean?
BEN: You must have slipped him a few shekels, eh?
BRIAN: Slipped him a few shekels? You saw him spit in my face!
BEN: Ohh! What wouldn't I give to be spat at in the face! I sometimes hang
awake at night dreaming of being spat at in the face.
BRIAN: Well, it's not exactly friendly, is it? They had me in manacles!
BEN: Manacles! Ooh oooh oh oh. My idea of heaven is to be allowed to be
put in manacles... just for a few hours. They must think the sun shines out o' your arse, sonny.
BRIAN: Oh, lay off me. I've had a hard time!
BEN: You've had a hard time?! I've been here five years! They only hung me
the right way up yesterday! So, don't you come 'rou--
BRIAN: All right. All right.
BEN: They must think you're Lord God Almighty.
BRIAN: What will they do to me?
BEN: Oh, you'll probably get away with crucifixion.
BRIAN: Crucifixion?!
BEN: Yeah, first offence.
BRIAN: Get away with crucifixion?! It's--
BEN: Best thing the Romans ever did for us.
BRIAN: What?!
BEN: Oh, yeah. If we didn't have crucifixion, this country would be in a
right bloody mess. ”

Overall a good year for me.

Lost my mum on 2nd January, after a long illness, but she was a strong woman who bore it bravely. We gave her the non-religious humanist service she wanted and it was a day of celebration more than mourning.

I feel guilty posting positive stuff in this thread after reading some of the less than happy accounts, but:

Work is just a case of keeping your head down, performing to the best of your ability, and being as inconspicuous as possible in case they notice you when the next round of redundancies start.

Getting back into cycling in the latter half of 2009 after a long layoff gave me the opportunity this year to do some very enjoyable stuff, and to actually take some holidays for a change!

Briefly;
Glasgow - Inverness on route NCN7 through the heavy snow in March.
The Norwich 100, which thankfully stayed dry until the final 5 miles.
Glasgow - Inverness again because it was so amazing, I wanted to see it in some better weather conditions.
(If you've never done NCN7 - I'd totally recommend it as an escape)
A week on a Bike Events holiday on an easy circuit of The Netherlands, when I met some great people.
4 FNRttCs

Mileage for the year probably incalculable, as the main commute bike has no computer, but probably at least 4,000.

Above all, I've met some really interesting, nice, and genuine people from this very medium!:hello:

2010 - the year of my 50th.

I started the year in Australia, en route from Sydney to Adelaide.

Had nearly a month in Cambodia with the girlfriend, before starting an almost non-stop six months of hard work at the golf course where I'm employed.

Bought a flat in the summer with my g/f and and about to finish three months work as a nursery school assistant.

I haven't ridden as much this summer as I had hoped (bad weather and being knackered) but hopefully with a new road bike for next year, I'll clock some big miles up.

All in all a good year, but, as always, I hope the new one is better!

Wonderful personally - a year of discovering our new home in Canada, but mostly due to this little guy:

Pretty unproductive in work terms (and least by my standards)... but that all doesn't seem so important compared to the rest.

I don't think that happy posters should feel guilty. I don't need help to find depressing things to think about, so it's nice to be reminded that it isn't all gloom and doom out there. Positive role models and all that...

(Just don't gloat! ;))

FM - beautiful little boy!

Keep it coming guys - it's good to read the good posts- as it can't have been a toughie for everyone so enough of the guilty feelings and thanks for the well wishes!
Nice to read these threads as it's like a slice into each forummers life.
So I guess you lot know why I vanished off CC for a long while now!

What I learnt is to be less guarded perhaps and to be open with others, you get the best surprises from people that way and if it's not something that someone is into - more their problem than mine.

A big thank you to all those who have been with me through such tough times- you CC lot know who you are!

that's really good going, Monty, and I'm sure we all wish you well.

This, for me, was the year of being married. Not the first year of being married (not the 21st, either) but the year in which 'The Babe' became Susie, and a good number of you took her to your hearts as she took to the road. I can't tell you what a pleasure it was to arrive in Southend for breakfast with the one I love, and how wonderful it is to hear that my 'cycling friends are all such nice people'. Thankyou one and all.

This year, for me,has been absolutely horrible and so far there seems to be no sign of anything getting better. So am looking forward to a brand new year and hopefully a much better one for me and for everybody on here too.I will be relieved to see the back of 2010 and will be attempting to make some massive changes to myself too,so any lessons in how to be a complete bitch instead of far too gullible and trusting would be greatly appreciated.Oh and yes,am having a bad day :-D
I have nothing to offer other than a :hugs: and maybe a

It's been good for me.

I got a another nephew in February, the smiliest baby I've ever met. Oli continues to be a joy (well at least for an Auntie who doesn't have to deal with the ego and tantrums of a three year old).

I have two jobs I enjoy, one of which keeps me fit. A really daft decision early in the year, to try for the next LEL saw me racking up extra miles on my commute, managing 50 a week by the summer, for an as-the-crow-flies distance of 18 a week. I had 3 weeks in France with some recumbent friends, and managed nearly 900 miles in the time, pedalling, eating, drinking and being merry (and sometimes, very very wet).

I've been on some great group rides, including my first night ride (to Scarborough), my first recumbent imperial century, and my forst 200km - all on the same ride!

All in all, it's been good, and it's looking like 2011 shows promise.

For all those with trials and troubles - may 2011 be brilliant for you!

You didn't mention me

If I was to try and list all the CC peeps I've met, someone would be offended because I'd missed them out.

But yes, I had a beer and a curry with Hilldogger. And arsed about on his bikes while getting paid did some work with him too
Still haven't met Bonj though.
