Hit all my targets at work leading to more money and a better job.

Got a brilliant new kitten.

Holidayed in the Caribbean.

Been to some great gigs.

Finally saw my little brother married off.

Nothing broke, nothing wore out.

A good one.

I've just come to a shocking conclusion - I'm 54 years old and I've never actually had a 'good' year!

I was trying to think back to when the last really good year was and I got as far as little Colin aged 5 and then it got kind of blurry. Every year I could remember was bad overall, it's just a question of how bad.

I'm not saying that there haven't been a few highlights here and there, the odd fun holiday, but a year in which there were more good days than bad - nope, zero, zilch, rien, nada, bugger all!

That's really scary - I'd better pull my finger out and start living a little before I'm too old to care - yikes!

2010's been a great year. I spent the first 6 months travelling round the world, did my first FNRttC, and to top it off, we're now expecting our first child.

2010 has flown by work-wise. Very busy with a full to brimming order book for machinery. Almost too much workload as to be damaging (if that makes sense?)

After a few small tours, I decided to ride round Holland solo in 10 days. Did the 800+ miles in 9 days.

Did loads of miles (for me) and got into regular exercise mode. Found time to carry on with Ju-jitsu and got my orange belt a few weeks ago. Going for green in May 2011.

Thanks to my military/police/Thai boxing/Ju-jitsu experience I have a chance at helping out with a firm training bodyguards/close protection work. Informal interview tomorrow, so i might get to earn a few extra pennies?

Really good thread this one, thanks all for sharing.

Bikewise, 2010 has been amazing.

There was the fabulous MTB holiday in Sardinia, riding more than I ever thought I could and then really feeling progress (fitness and ability) over the week. It was a timely reminder also of the importance of holidays - so nurturing and restorative, even when they are flat-out physical! And yet I find it so hard to make them happen. Arguably it should be easy taking holidays, what with being single, self-employed and with no dependents, but I don't find it so...

And I finally ditched (sold on) my crappy ebay bike that was heavy as hell, not at all comfortable, hurt my wrists and made me grumpy, and got a hybrid groove machine that makes me smile instead. Cos I'm worth it

Lifewise, Mum got an all clear from the cancer crew, after a few years of pretty nasty ops and treatments, which was music to our ears.

And I'm alive and well and hopeful that there's gonna be another year rocking up for us all in just a couple of weeks...

Merry Xmas all ye CycleChatters and here's to creating the 2011 you wish for
