Driving home from work and as often happens, a completely random thought creeped into my head.

Who would win a flat 100 metre sprint out of sir Chris hoy and usain bolt????

Both starting from their normal race starts.

My money would be on Bolt.

I imagine Bolt would win a 100m race and Hoy a 200m race, so a 150m race would be interesting,
I love it- normal races don't quite fit our entertainment criteria, therefore we'll propose new ones to keep events lively and interesting! Can we get this set up for Rio2016?

Hoy. On his last kilo in 2007 his first split for a half lap (125 metres) was 11.19 seconds. That would bring him very close to Bolts time for the 100 metres - plus that was kilo gearing, for a 100 metre sprint he could be on something smaller to accelerate quicker.

btw i dont remember split times from 2007 off hand i did a bit of research into it after a discussion with someone during the Olympics last year

If hoy is on a track bike Bolt. If hoy has gears, hoy.

He'll be able to accelerate to 100 metres faster on his track bike IMO. With the amount of power and torque he is producing a gear change is going to be impossible without losing alot of time
Bolt would probably win if there were hurdles.
Ha ha

It's an interesting one, and I reckon 100 metres is probably about the right distance to make it interesting. In a related thought, I was gobsmacked to read somewhere that Bolt can reach something like, I think it was, 29 MPH, albeit only for very short bursts, but still. Blimey. Every now and then when I'm caning it on my bike, just about keeping up with the traffic, the thought suddenly jumps into my head: Usain Bolt can run at this speed! Does my head in every time.

I think Bolt would start off nonchalantly, not worrying about what he thinks will be an inevitable win. Halfway through, he'll stop for a nap, allowing Hoy to overtake. Then Bolt will suddenly wake up, and sprint for it, only for Hoy to just win it on the line.

Unfortunately this reminds me of the old tale regarding a tail. "Which is longer a cats tail or my/your penis?" The result depends on where you measure from.
In other words if 100 metres is the total: Bolt. If there is a couple laps to gain speed: Hoy.
