Hello, me again!! Sorry to unload all of my questions on your lot...but just curious if this is a problem!! Im pretty fit, resting HR of 54.I train/ride 5-9 hrs a week, with core and weights 15 mins after some sessions too. My issue is my hr is very erratic. On my turbo warm up i can be in a very easy spinny gear, and my hr can be as low as 101 and I'm doing 21mph, another day ill be struggling at 13mph and my hr will be pushing 150. On the road i can't ride leisurely at a decent pace as my hr will jump to 160 quite easily. I also find ill be comfortably riding at 150 hr on the drops then ill sit up and it goes up quickly. Its very erratic. My top hr max is 194 and I can happily do a tt or big long effort with hr above 175 for a good while. I don't get pains in my chest. Am thinking of seeing my doctor but just asking if anyones had similar?

Have you checked your pulse against your heart rate readings? I use a Garmin chest strap and find it can be very unreliable spiking and dropping erraticly, I have had a replacement strap but its no better, I don't wear mine that much because of the unreliability, but I know people who have no problems at all, some good advice here.

Get a Polar strap they are far better.

Yes I have read about this solution but not tried it yet, I will have to give it a go, but my experience with the Garmin has left me with little enthusiasm for HR training.

Which Polar strap is recommended?

Sorry, I cannot remember that one, I do know my Garmin transmitter clipped straight on. It certainly cured many a wayward number.

No idea if it's a problem. If your doctor is concerned, they may refer you to have a 24-hour ECG fitted. The famous sticky pads wired to a black box on a belt IIRC.
 
On a ride my HR varies a lot unlike running where it is much more constant but as said, sudden and slightly weird jumps are likely to be the strap itself. Make sure it has a new battery, make sure it's tight and make sure you've dampened it before you put it on.
