It is in fact, one of these (stock pic off the interwebby thing), same colour and everything.

I am hoping in time he will donate it to me as my second bike

What are you supposed to do, let a fine GT degrade into its component oxides while he makes up his mind not to ride it? I would say you are doing him a favor by keeping his bicycle in rideable condition.
