In March Cubester's team played Otley in the Semi Final of the Yorkshire cup. Otley beat Huddersfield that day, but most memorable was a few minutes into the match when the Otley No 8 took a pass off the back of a ruck. He was tackled by Huddersfield's winger, Ben, known to the other Under 13s as "Dad".

I was watching through the viewfinder of a Nikon, and by sheer luck captured the hit. The look on Dan, the prop's face tells a bit about the noise the tackle made. Cubester is the forward immediately behind Dan, wearing the red boots.

Tonight Cubester gleefully reported that he was sent a link to a Youtube clip capturing the hit.
Enjoy.

It's a mans game. I'm sure there was no feigning injury and the lad got his breath back and carried on.

Ooof.. Felt that one over here in Norway.

I wouldn't like to take a hit from Cubester either - he looks a bit of a handful. :B)

A mans game....there is a guy wearing tights.

Most of them are wearing two layers top and bottom.

In my schooldays we made do with single layers out on the rugby pitch, football pitch and cross country courses irrespective of the temperature.

Sportsmen are getting softer.

Your shirt would have been thicker and long sleeved I'd imagine. Most modern rugby shirts aren't much thicker than football shirts, especially the (semi)professional ones (the Otley team are wearing replicas of their 1stXV shirts - don't know about the Huddersfield shirts).

So what are you saying about cyclists....that we are not tough

That we are rather more likely than most to wear tights

I've still got my old long-johns which I used to wear on building sites in the winter... they're OK as long as you don't get knocked down and get the backside ripped out of your cycling gear...

Most of them seem to wear a pair of lycra undershorts, (I used to wear swimming trunks..... kept everything in order) and most of them wear a wicking baselayer.

The Hudds shirt is similar to, but not identical to the 1st XV shirt.

Cubester is no longer carrying as much spare weight. He was fit then, despite the tyre, but a summer training schedule has seen him lose about 20lb, increase his power to weight ratio, and he's knocked the best part of two minutes off his 1600 metre time.
