Hello, Ive just received the good news ive been offered a place on a charity ride from Hull to Widnes cycling on the tran pennine trail.

The ride is planned for June 2nd and 3rd so it will cover 160ish miles in 2 days.

I bought myself a specialized sirrus elite last year and did a few 50 - 100 mile rides last summer but im still a bit wary of taking on a ride like this sooo..

any tips or previous experience advice would be greatly appreciated.

cheers

Get a map! - the signs are (or were) rubbish ... mainly defaced or removed by vandals - and be prepared for interminable barriers on the route between Manchester & Widnes

+1 on getting a map and not trusting the signage!

E-W - I've only done the bits between Hadfield and Leeds, with a tandem (fully laden with tents, camping and cooking equipment) + 2 other kids on bikes. Your bike should handle the crossing of the Pennines, for all that a good chunk is off road.

Just wondering - if it's a 2-day ride, where's the overnight? Check out if it's Crowden (brilliant but basic) or earlier?

Hey,

I've cycled the Leeds to Hornsea (via Hull) with an overnight, and have done Sheffield>Leeds in one day, your going to love it:thumbsup:

Hull to Selby will fly by, with a couple exceptions its basically flat and a lot on single track tarmac. The rest is good quality aggregate but it can be a bit squirly around barnsley, but there are works ongoing ATM which should have improved the surface by then.

I also do it on 700x28c but for next time I'm changing to 32 or 35 as I found my rear a little think at times but I am on the positive side of 100kg, you may be ok if your lighter than me!
