I thought the current TVs had all the functions of a Humax PVR built in. I've seen people on TV complaining that their nearly-new smart TVs don't work any more because the the broadcasters have done a software upgrade (which has also happened to my Humax, it now won't get ITVX).
I don't know the full functionality of a Humax box as I've never had one. I can guess but won't comment on that.
Our TV was 11 years old and worked perfectly except none of the apps worked due to software updates. This happened over a number of years. I think Netflix was the last to stop. We were able to get all the functionality we wanted from our box - a very old BT one. When the box died overnight we had to make a choice.
A new box with the functionality we wanted was in the region of £300. A new TV with the same functionality, except recording, was +/-£700 including a full surround sound bar. It seemed more sensible to invest in a new TV as the old one could pack up at anytime.
Mrs P is a rather impatient person. I'm happy to watch catch-up with ads on ITVX. After three weeks she insisted we buy a recordable box so she could skip the ads.........I know how to pick my battles and simply purchased the lowest cost decent box I could find.
I was very happy to pass on our old TV, free, to someone who truly benefitted from it.
