What I would suggest is that on your 700c wheels you have 32 or 36 spokes. I'm pretty heavy (16.5 stone) and I have went through loads of spokes on the various bikes over the years. I currently have wheels on my bike with 20 spokes and it has been a nightmare keeping the wheel true, with a few broken spokes into the bargain - and these are reasonably expensive wheels. I have found that things tend to stay pretty tight on flattish surfaces but if I'm doing between 50-100 miles on a hill course it's a real pain - many loose spokes. My LBS, which is incidentally run by my family, has advised me to drop the aero 20 spoke wheels and get something a bit more robust for day to day cycling. I just have to face the fact that I'm a bit fat
Oh well.
However, tyre pressure and the tyre excuse just sounds like nonsense.
