OOOOH!

See why I steer well clear of debates on shooting !

Seriously though milo, grandiose though your plans to get permission and bag yourself a bunny or two are, I think you'll find it very very difficult to even get started. I've been rabbiting ever since I was 11 years old, and even now it's very difficult to gain the trust of farmers and keep permission to shoot over people's land.

Snapper, Arch's question about vegetarianism is not meant as an insult. If you eat meat, you have to accept that someone kills it. How they do it doesn't bear thinking about, if you are genuinely squeamish. Even humane british slaughter methods have their unpleasant side....it isn't a job I could do. Halal and Kosher slaughter is absolutely odious by the way, but a skilled warrener can despatch a netted rabbit in a second. Shot in the head they die instantly and painlessly, and at my age and with my experience I can now safely say that I will hit 99 out of a hundred in the head or I won't pull the trigger.

This too is why I would discourage milo from going out, buying an air rifle and having a go, without first making absolutely sure of a clean and humane kill every time.

I also never seen rabbits caught by birds, do the Red Tail Hawkes actually kill the birds when catching them or do they bring them back to handler when they are still alive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Red Tails kill the rabbit and then sit on the carcass, and I have to go in and intice them off of it before they begin feeding so that they can hunt again.

I have only had to dispatch two quarry animals caught by Geniveve: a Young Fox and a Munjac deer that she brought down (both when Rabbits have been the targetted prey). Although she is a large bird; 22 inches from the top of the crown to the tip of the tail, a 58 inch wingspan, and a weight of 3lbs 12 oz, she some times has ambitions above her station (like most females ;)) and thinks that she is a much more powerful bird such as a Golden Eagle.
