My recently acquired Raleigh Royal has a Sachs-Huret New Success rear mech fitted, a type I had never heard of before. I've had Huret gears, but only low-end ones. This one is actually rather nicely made, appears to be an alloy casting. Were they original spec for a 1985 Royal, and how do they compare to the better known Shimano mechs? As work and crappy wet weather have conspired against me putting the bike back together, I haven't had a chance to actually try it out yet.....

The Disraeli Gears website probably has some info . Not sure if it was OEM but a brochure should help.

I guess it is the long cage touring version. Depending on the generation of New Success I would say it is either "not quite as good as Shimano 600" or "just as good as Shimano 600", others may have different views
