Hydraulic Rim Brakes

If I was to change my V-Brakes to Hyrdraulic rim brakes, would I HAVE to change my brake levers?
It's just my gear and brake levers are all part of the same unit at present ya see, the rapid fire things

Yes. V brakes use cables and a lever arrangement to operate. Hydraulic rim brakes use a pistons at both lever and caliper ends and use a hydraulic fluid to transfer the movement of lever to caliper.

If you really want to do it you will have to replace the gear shifters too as they are integrated with the brake levers.

Have you considered just replacing what you have with a better quality V brake and pads?

You don't have to replace the shifter pods in all cases.

Some older integrated Rapid fires were identical to the stand alone units and you can add the bar clamp separately to convert the shifter pods to stand alone units.

Alivio and STX-RC can be converted this way.

It's not something I've got my heart set on, just a thought that occurred as I've been reserching all the different bikey bits available

I've never even heard of them.... what are the advantages and disadvantages of them.... ? (though I can't imagine going back from hydraulic disk brakes).

Magura made a hydraulic rim brake a while back - a bit tricky to fit and set up but once done are very effective.
