... thought I'd go for a little ride to take advantage of the lovely weather and to unwind after a pretty busy week.

Horsham ain't Copenhagen is it? How soon I forgot, it seems.

Fark me the driving standards are shite in this town/district and the attitudes of certain drivers towards other, more vulnerable, road users and, for that matter, other motorists is appalling.

Three punishment passes and some verbal "whaddayaridininthefarkingmiddeodafarkinroadfor!?!" abuse in the space of two hours.

So what were you doing riding in the middle of the road?

Actually I was riding, pretty fast, in the middle of the right most lane on an urban 30mph limit DC so as to turn right at the roundabout to go into John Lewis/Waitrose. Any delay I caused was as nothing as the time wasted by chummy to follow me into the John Lewis car park to berate me, discover they then have to drive right around the car park to leave, and get caught by traffic blocking exit onto the roundabout.

My how we larfed.

I ride every weekend in Hampshire on a road bike (currently 60-100m mile rides) and every day in London in the week (Clapham to Chiswick) and never have single problem. What am I doing different to avoid all this?
What do you think you are doing different (sic) to avoid all this?

Did you forget they drive/cycle on the right?
Fnarr. I did forget to ride on the right in cph on way back from the pub one night. It only got interesting once I left the part of town with the segregated cycle lanes... but the funny thing is, the first car I encountered head-on stopped and a very friendly chat ensued. Whereas in England...

I've menched this before but in the early days of Brittany Ferries when they used to drop you off in the middle of the night we once drove right through Caen on the left hand side of the road.

Ive had 2 run in's in the last 3 months....If I hadnt had made an issue out of them I wouldnt have got the really nasty response I did..but I did and ended up in major confrontations. On both occasions I was probably up for it, if I'd ignored them life would have gone on.

Rural roads I must add- commuting days are over.

What no confrontations at all ,or at least hate thoughts about the idiot that could've wiped you out? Do you ride very defensively?
