earlier this year as I was driving down a lane in the van, I came up behind a car that was being driven a bit slower than is normal and a bit erratic. I followed for a couple of miles before he turned of, as he turned I could he was driving with a map on the steering wheel.

I once saw someone driving on the M25 with the newspaper open on their steering wheel.

Problem is: millions of motorists are doing this - or something very close to this - quite legally (or is it?). What with their Tomtoms or what-have-you prominently mounted on the fascia. I know you're only supposed to listen to the wretched thing, not to stare at it, when you're on the move, but how many motorists can resist a lingering gaze I wonder? Perhaps someone with experience (I'm very anti- these gadgets) can answer me?

There is a legal requirement to drive with due care and attention any driver reading a map on the move or staring at a statnav is failing to do so. Sadly this sort of behaviour is considered to be socially acceptable and as a result 7 people died needlessly every day...

I was circulating a large roundabout earlier in the week- one of those tricky ones with a dual carriageway going through it. Car entered the roundabout without slowing and passed directly across my path. Driver was eating a huge filled baguette. There was lettuce in it, and tomato- I was that close.
