Since you're planning a cycling holiday later in the year you should be looking at a tourer, but I'm not sure you'd want it to be fixed gear

The nearest User got to a tourer was the Manningtree epic - heading out there on the A12, fixed, shorts billowing, smashing into every expansion joint on that concrete nightmare, shouting "Tora tora tora!" That was when he had strength, looks and fitness on his side. Days of plenty have taken their toll...
