While out riding the outher day with my 26 yr old step daughter Gemma, There was a female cyclist coming to wards us in full lycra race kit as I was about to say hello I caught the sight of Gemma's wheel catch the grass verge she turned right to get out of it and the front end folded and threw her over the bars. Gemma knee was bleeding quite bad and a bit of bruising nothing too serious but the outher cyclist just carried on her merry, I was gobsmaked if I had seen that I would definately have stoped to see if she was ok at least or help if I poss could . This happened out in the country so no one else about

But you were there. I don't see what the problem is here.

You know nothing about the other cyclist they may faint at the sight of blood so if she had of stopped you would have 2 casualties on your hands not just one. As you were there she probably didn't see any need for stopping.

Ouch, sorry to hear that. I would have stopped as well. Did not too long ago for a couple of cyclists who were pouring over their map and looked somewhat lost. Hope Gemma's ok now.

I hate this "holier than thou" attitude when you have no idea why the female cyclist would not have stopped. I do, would and have stopped to offer a helping hand to other cyclists. But who's to say she didn't just get a call 5 mins before this happened saying her son/husband/parents were in a serious car accident and were being rushed to hospital and she just wants to get home/hospital to be with them. Its hardly as if she caused the accident in the first place.

That aside..

..are we not forgetting that its another young woman alone, she may not know if she's safe to stop given many scare stories online.

Some people also have a fear of blood. I had a school mate who would keel over at the sight of it.

Lets not be too judgemental, and I hope the girl heals up OK!

I would have stopped, after all, you never know when you will need help yourself! How would you feel if you were in real trouble and someone just rode on by. Thats the attitude in general these days. I prefer to be old school in these matters.

Yes, clearly it was 'Someone Else's Problem'.

How fast was she going? Are you sure she even saw what happened?

You can't judge another person's actions by what you would do in what you imagine that person's circumstances to be, no matter how tempting.

Seems like there is a definite split in oppinions here, I must be in the old skool way of life where you help people, maybe its also to do with being brought up in a small village as opposed to a city. I cant say what she did see but I believe she would have seen and heard it I was looking in the opposite direction and heard it first

ELL I am sorry you feel this way I dont believe I feel Holier than thou, I just try and help people in need by being a good person and no I am not religous,

There are few of us untouched by the 80's and its 'me first, someone else's fault' culture.

A woman was genuinely shocked when I offered to help her yesterday, people now see it as something odd and not the norm.

I find that sad.

As I said above I stop to help people in need as well. I find sometimes its a good way to get to know other cyclists but if I was in the same situation as you (and I have been with my wife) I would not expect someone to stop just because they are on a bike as well. I just dont think you should judge other peoples actions if you dont know the reasons for them.
