Seems like there is a definite split in oppinions here, I must be in the old skool way of life where you help people, maybe its also to do with being brought up in a small village as opposed to a city. I cant say what she did see but I believe she would have seen and heard it I was looking in the opposite direction and heard it first

I was brought up in a small village too. The point is that you are making a negative judgement about someone based on your assumptions of her experience. She might have been distracted by something. She might not have seen. She might have been inconsiderate and uncaring but you can't say that she definitely was.

..are we not forgetting that its another young woman alone, she may not know if she's safe to stop given many scare stories online.

Some people also have a fear of blood. I had a school mate who would keel over at the sight of it.

Lets not be too judgemental, and I hope the girl heals up OK!

It's entirely likely that had your step daughter been on her own, the other cyclist might have stopped to offer assistance.

However, she might also have decided that since there were two of you, and your step daughter therefore had some help, there was no need to get involved.

She might also, if she took her cycle training very seriously, have been engrosed in her training and not been interested in either of you.

I've offered help to people on a number of occasions with varying degrees of reply; including, on one occasion, an attempt to punch me on the nose for sticking it where it wasn't wanted!!!

I'd have to say that in the majority of cases, the person I've offered help to - even if they have declined the offer - has at least seemed to appreciate it; but receiving negative responses could, if you're so inclined, put you off.

Is your step daughter okay? and has it put her off cycling at all?

I'll stop or slow down for any cyclist regardless of my objectivess, whom I see stopped and look as if they have problems, whether they are on there own or not and ask if they require assistance, unless there is a clearly visible reason why they are stopped.

One day it may be me miles from home and require assistance.

Gemma is doing well still very bruised and sore it has knocked her confidence but she came out today and did a 40 miler with me, she is alot slower on decents and around corners but this is not all bad as she might have had a bit to much confidence before, I am sure she will be back to full fitness and confidence soon

Have just remembered an incident on the 'Phil and Friends' a few years ago when I rounded a sharp bend some distance after Woodhead Reservoir. Immediately there was a huge pothole which I managed to avoid, straight after which was a group of 3 cyclists one of whom was in bit of a state and had clearly hit the pothole with devastating results.

I simply can't imagine passing someone who has had a fall without doing something and I asked if I could help. They thanked me and said they had called an ambulance. To my amazement I had only gone another mile or so and there hurtling towards me was the very thing.

Yes, I seemed to have had a charmed life on that ride. Earlier I saw someone offed by a cat and suffered cuts and bruises. We couldn't find the cat as it had run off.

F***ing cats. I've had a few leap out at me from under cars. What am I, catnip? I often tell my workmates and friend I think they should be housebound, they often kill things in my garden.

I'm a stop and offer help person too! I didn't get where I am today...etc.

However some people for whatever reason don't feel able to do this. A lone female rider seeing you were there may have simply 'played safe' and kept going.

I have been flatly turned down when offering to help to a lone female rider with a flat tyre. I didn't take exception and rode on after offering to call anyone she wanted to know where she was, this was declined too.

I'm glad you didn't take exception, I'd have turned you down too, on both counts, although I'd have appreciated the offer.
