Oh come on ... we're all human and occasionally we lapse.

Are you really saying breaking someones Mirrors is acceptable to you?

I think the use of the word 'lapse' indicates that the action is not acceptable. You don't 'lapse' if you do something acceptable...

I gather that a downward blow is more likely to damage the mirror housing, than anything fore or aft...

I've never done it myself, I try and limit myself to muttering (or louder) something insulting, and anyway, I'd be sure to muck it up and fall off.

Personally if you physically break something that isn't yours, it's more than just a lapse. I've had drivers be dicks to me but I've learn to just ignore them and enjoying my ride.

Actually, as I said in the OP, I don't have anger issues.
I' d had a very very frustrating commute this morning and that about put the tin lid on things.
I was extremely careful to try not to cause damage in approach/speed, as I know wing mirrors are designed to take a knock or two. It was never my intention to cause permanent damage.
That said, I take the point made earlier about not doing our cause any favours, and am suitably contrite.

Fair enough, we all have frustrating rides sometimes, but you still "aimed" your right arm at her Mirror.

I had a run in with a chav slapper in an MGF yesterday. She deliberately tried to intimidate me.

I caught up with her at the next set of lights, she was fuming!!! I opened the car door just as the lights went freen & cycled off!

It's never right, but I can understand it. I guess that's why I love the video camera. You can bring immense embarassment to a driver via youtube, perfectly legally and quite fairly. Just look at all the many campaigning examples here.

OTOH:
I remember someone on C+ posting that the best way according to them to deal with mirrors is not to bend them forwards/backwards, but up/down. Then they break, and expensive car mirrors like BMW or Merc might be as much as £1000 to replace.

Now, stop daydreaming and remember the other post from a chap that broke someone's mirror, and it ended up costing them multiple thousands of pounds in court. The driver chased them whilst calling the police, saying he had a gun. The cyclist got caught.

Sorry, can't condone this at all. Let's face it, it is criminal damage. I'm not one to mince words, so I won't.

Action like this doesn't help cyclists at all. This driver will be significantly more aggressive towards cyclists as a result of this. All that for a moment of revenge.

Sorry I can't join in the back slapping.

I love the idea of opening their doors. Sadly, most cars auto lock when they first move, but that would be brilliant.

Ive got to be honest I would have done the same thing but would of instantly regretted it and the other posts are right, what if you see this person again and they try and take action, you are vulnerable on a bike.

Like I say I have done something similar in the past but have learnt my lesson and really try hard not to loose it anymore.
