Lovely looking guitar, keep up the lessons you will love it, i myself did them for a year, but daughter came along to scupper that, but one thing i do is to make sure i play around for 10-15 mins each night, going over what i have taught myself mainly blues licks and general chords.. as for the D chord i hate it hah!

only tips i can give is, don't grip the neck to tight and try to relax, as for practise 10-15 mins is perfect, i know it's hard to do less but you will enjoy it and build up to practise/playing longer.

if I can help with any questions just pm me:becool:
I have one question, the answer to which would help me and many other 'blocked' would-be guitarists, so I'll ask it here rather than by PM ...

My major stumbling block is bar chords. I never learned how to place the bar finger comfortably and effectively. I either end up with buzzing or muffled strings, or a very tired arm from trying to use force the finger down.

How is it done? There must be a secret, because good guitarists make it look easy!

Removing that one obstacle would probably be enough to get me keen again.

PS The action is too high on my Yamaha. Lowering it would definitely help, but I don't have that excuse on the other guitar and still struggle.

Enjoy. Being able to play an instrument is a delightful part of life. I'd recommend 3 things...

1) relax and enjoy it, don't stress - it will come with practise
2) learn a few songs well enough to play along with them
3) work up to playing along with others, because believe me THAT feeling is so much better. We called my first band "better than sex" because that's what it felt like. Ok we were young...

You might find it easier with your thumb in a different position. Some say it should point up the neck, all I can say is try different hand positions. The rest is practise. If you're getting tired you're either not practising enough or you have it in a death grip. Chill.

Oh you just reminded me that I have a keyboard in the loft.

This is most joyous news!!!:bravo:

:welcome: to your new addiction:laugh:

Although ive never had a lesson in my life I think it's best to get one to one coaching/lessons at least to start with. Getting the basics perfect before you jump into learning all you fav songs etc will pay dividends later.

if I can help with any questions just pm me:becool:

I am having lessons on Thursday afternoons at Norwich Singing School. They don't just teach singing. They teach guitar and piano too. I think that its a set of studios that various tutors use. My tutor is called Lisa and she is a professional tutor and performer.

Are your prices right?? I can't find a tutor for less than £30 an hour around here and Norwich isn't exactly well off. Not considering a move to the Eastern Counties any time soon at all??

Hubby has just wandered off with my new guitar and his guitar book and is in the living room. I am sat here on pins waiting for her downstairs to bang on the door and tell us to shut up, as per.

First law of the guitar...thy neighbours need to suffer for thy art. We all need an audience and they need to understand that they are it.
