I did well and broke my mental barrier....

Yesterday the wife suggested we have a ride out to Morpeth (northumberland) c15 miles away.
Having had a stent inserted into my main artery feeding my heart muscle 4 weeks ago all I have done is my 5 mile each way commute.
I said yes and that I would do it on my MTB whie the wife is using my roadie, but stll thought...30 miles, can I do it without needing a gtn spray or worst case , an ambulance.

Well, I did it, 40.19 miles and averaged 13.7 mph so not bad at all on full knobbly tyres too - and the weather was beautiful. I felt really good about the ride and myself so.... Bring it on.
Looking forward to my next long-ish ride out.

Excellent stuff - I can well understand your reticence, but it has to be a good thing to get some nice mileages under your belt again.

Thanks all - really appreciated.
Herzog, from the Freeman (live next to it - v handy!) along to sandy lane, then back route close to cramlington then cross A1 and up to stannington - parallel A1 then by Morpeth golf club down into Morpeth.
Back same route then to Whalton and Ponteland, Dinnington and home.
I was surprised with the climb back out of Morpeth and up past the Golf club and although not easy, I wasn't struggling for breath as I had been really for the last year on long inclines like that!
