I do the most pointless job in the world

No this came in under the previous fiasco, to simplify planning - by making it 10 times more bureaucratic.
got one sent back because I had not provided all the elevations - of a polytunnel. !!
The scale of the metal goods container was not correct on the 1:2500 location plan (I was out by 1.5mm)
Why am I needing permission in the first place - oddly the council wouldn't need permission to place them-
Monday I drive 2hours to go measure windows in a cottage for permission to put in secondary glazing. so a num-nuts conservation officer can say - o yes its like the other 5 cottages you have done in that area.
This all costs time and money and is utterly pointless - no wonder the country is grinding to a halt.

Looks as if it's your job to keep somebody else in work who's job it is to make your job more difficult.
I have a friend here in Australia who has been a carpenter all his working life, mostly in the UK, but is not allowed to make stair cases in Australia because he's not qualified or licenced to make them. He also has to get an engineers report, not just a building inspection, on a balcony that he has built to the architects specifications which were approved at the planning stage.

If you don't like your job change it! I've twice taken a fair drop in pay to change to something that appealed more and regard it as having been very worthwhile.

A word of warning though, it works better if the job is reasonably closely related to what you do/know.

I have worked almost entirely in care and once spent a year as a financial adviser. I knew an awful lot about personal finance, but didn't appreciate that it was essentially a sales job with all that entails. It works the other way as well. I've recruited a lot of people as carers who have done other things and see working in care as being a long-term ambition. Some of them make it, but many of them don't. The further away from where you are the bigger the risk you are taking.
