Until a few months ago I had NEVER, in all my years of cycling cleaned or lubed a bike.

I have just found myself utterly absorbed in the task of poking a baby wipe into the hole of every individual link in my chain. I've no idea how long this took as I got completely lost in the task!

I can now run the chain through my fingers and its completely clean! Its now drying in the sun, then it'll get lubed up! OH can't believe the change.

next step is when the OH gets to sleep in the garage and this sleeps next to you!

and it is always kept that clean and shiny!

I'm not so sure. Bike maintenance was my new years resolution. Since I did the bike maintenance beginners course in February I've become a bit evangelical about it. The family are sick of me tutting at their chains!

Some one told me to use a bit of "Elbow Grease", but Halfords don't seem to stock it?

Staples have plenty of Elbow Grease in stock http://www.staples.co.uk/cleaning-f...-purpose-cleaners/elbow-grease-original-500ml
Sometimes found in the local pound shop too.

Thanks for the baby wipes tip - i've been using cotton buds

they get caught and stuck and you end up with a white fluffy drive train!
