Nothing to do with spelling, but when I was young I thought the lyrics to Puff the Magic Dragon mentioned ceiling wax instead of sealing wax. Although I have no idea what ceiling wax would be used for.

I'm a bit of a grammar Nazi but I do seem unable to settle on the spelling of 'separate'.

In fact the spell checker just set me straight again. It's been decades and this one just won't stick for me.

I also struggle with permanent vs permenant.

I before e except after c, or in seized (use this quite a lot at work..).

(Fork) "Stanchion" always makes me check twice as well, along with "recommend", is it really two m's?.

My 9 year old son has been top of his year 4 times out of 5 in the spelling competition at school, I've learnt a fair few words just helping him with his spelling practice!.
