I feel a bit of a cheat though, there is the odd POB on BSO's riding about....although the law of physics doesn't apply to them. Virtually no cyclists out though...
Heh, I know the feeling when on anything near road geom I'm like "how the f**k are you staying on that?" then I get on the MTB where I don't even have to think to track stand & go "oh yeah like that" ;)

Only done 1 commute this year (Thursday) going in on the main roads was ok took about 25% longer - No traffic just taking it slow.
Coming home was worse. Normally 25 mins on a good day - Took me 40 minutes. I decided to stick to a top speed of 10mph cause my thinking was if I did come off at that speed it wouldn't be too bad.
Don't matter how long it takes you as long or how fast you go as you get there all ok.
It's commuting after all not time trials.

I came off just before xmas, only slightly bruised hip and arm but painful neck whiplash! (I was going very slow and had a foot out to stop, didn't do any good, I think I fell faster to the floor than the speed I was doing on the bike)

Anyone else get that??

Snap! Not a single 'off' in 2009 until 4 miles from home on the last commute of the year. Caught in really heavy snow, having forgotten the plastic lid (really:sad:). Cut forehead, black eye and a sore shoulder - but the real pain was having to buy a replacement prescription lens for the Oakleys - double ouch!

Oh - and I've learned that fresh snow is a lot safer than the shiny white stuff after it's been packed by car tyres.

I've decided - after years of winter commuting without a break (of any variety!) not to cycle in until the weather really improves. It's not worth the hassle. It feels a bit like a holiday, to be honest. I thought catching the bus would be a real pain, but it's been a breeze. No worrying about the bike or other road users... no faffing about getting changed when I get to work... I can do a bit of shopping in town after work before heading home. I can listen to music or read while travelling.

I love cycling, but enforced time off the bike has its compensations.

That's exactly the way to look at it. Resting is very good for your strength, fitness and head.
Just hard not to stare out of the bus, car, taxi and think "I could do it, sure I could"
