We went out on them yesterday that is her first cycle on a road bike in years and ended up doing 27 miles.

A cracking ride for first time out on the new bike! A very fit young lady, be careful you don't find yourself trailing in her wake! Well done.

Stop this now!

It is a slippery slope that has further implications as the pervasive effect of women on bikes takes a grip.

How do you sneak in that new light, upgrade the derailleur or tyres when she knows what they are and how much they cost?

What happens when she has the audacity to read the reviews and make intelligent requests for her bike to be upgraded?

I've bought one as a winter hack. The forks were a mess but they've had a repaint. Now it's been cleaned it looks a different bike. This is it on the eBay ad:

The only problem is the sadlle - the previous owner who liked his pies too much  and had everything angled wrong fitted a Selle Big Bum saddle, which isn't working as it's uncomfortable. So I've bought this red Selle Italia XO saddle yesterday for £5:

Now I've spent over my budget; it's got a red water bottle holder, bar plugs, red MTB muguard and a tool bag (all red). The saddle's taken it over the £10 repair limit I'd set for a winter hack  .

If anyone can tell me how you fit proper mudguards to one of these I'd be grateful.
