I got beeped.

Last night on my way home, I got beeped.

In the pic below is the road I was on. Yellow line is my approx position, red line shows where the beeper wanted to get to. The second arrow shows approx. where I was beeped. I was doing approx 20mph but slowing ready for the traffic light ahead.

I stay where the yellow line shows as a bit further down the road is a set of traffic lights, after the white hatching the road splits into 3 lanes, 1 left, 1 straight on and one right. I go straight on so I avoid the hatching and stay in the lane ready to go straight on after the traffic lights.

Was I wrong not to cycle in the white hatched area of the road ? Did I get beeped because the driver of the car just didn't see these markings ?

Got beep about 5 times on Wednesday. Out with the group, I was cycling 2 abreast having a chat. Now, we only got beeped when the other lane was completely empty and we were easy to overtake....I moved back in when it would make it easier for people

In your case, it depends on the location. At times I might go over the hatchings, but would rather stay in the lane. There's a little bit in Norwich which would basically mean, going in the outside lane to get back to the inside and I think it would just cause more conflicts to do that.

If the area is bordered by a broken white line, you should not enter the area unless it is necessary and you can see that it is safe to do so

It is not necessary, and the presence of the left lane ahead where vehicles are likely to cut in across your path means that it is not safe.

You were absolutely right to hold position. If you had gone onto the hatched area you would have had to get back out nearer to the junction, at the point where cars wanting to turn left are coming, effectively, across the front of you. Basically what this particular knobber wanted was for you to get into a position where he could left-hook you.

I got beeped by a coach on Thursday for holding a middle of road position and preventing him overtaking at a traffic island. When, after 3 miles he finally caught up, I rather childishly gave him a rude gesture. Thinking about it, his observational skills are probably so poor, he didn't realise I was the same cyclist. Oops.

+1... I got beeped today & shouted at to "give way to the right you w**ker". It's a shame I was on the roundabout before the said driver, I just wasn't carrying any speed & tip-toeing around some broken glass.

I had a similar thing happen a couple days ago - was cycling with a friend home, two abreast... and some old guy starts wheel hugging the pair of us... then beeping also incessantly.... obviously dosent realise that the HC states we may cycle two abreast...

anyway, he won't shut up, so we decide to cycle single file, In the primary position of course..

Bearing in mind there's heavy traffic on the other side of the road, and we're going at 15ish because the car ahead is doing .... 15!!! what does moton think he'll gain? he's going to advance in a slow moving que of traffice by a couple of extra metres.....

and then - he turns left anyway, almost 15m down the road... I MEAN COME ON!!!!

The way I look at it is ..........

If you get beeped at, you've been seen.
So there is less of a chance of being mowed down from behind by them.
I tend to give them a nice friendly wave, not two fingered, to thank them for telling me they are there ........

But as I ride a recumbent that type of wave is easy to do.
