Yeah, I consistently get beeped on a multi-lane piece of road for getting in lane in advance of needing to turn right at the upcoming junction, just as the signs say. As the left hand lane feeds in from the M27 and drivers seem to come down the ramp at near motorway speeds it feels safer to be as far across from them as possible.

I only go into hatched areas for respite when the traffic or junction is particularly lethal. The main problem is these areas are usually covered in grit and other detritus creating yet more danger.

So stick in your lane if you can, and as Tiger says, you have been seen, but doing something provocative to an impatient driver is rarely a good career move ...
