Very good advice.
It's so easy to do something on the spur of the moment that you can quickly regret. I was buzzing from the fast sprint at the time and so in a genuinely very happy mood which is why I was a little too playful with the loon who unlike me had probably been stuck in a queue in his box.

All forms of response seem to work against you and like you say the only thing I have found that works is the camera. Totally passive but infinitely more satisfying and effective.

I even pull over to let cars behind me pass,if im moving passed parked cars and staying outside the open door area,when its parked cars on both sides,only enough room for one car one way,when i see a gap in the parked cars ill wave the car on and give them a thumbs up as i pull in,its always got a good reaction,and im loosing a few seconds of time,i dont see the need to hold traffic up when i can just as easily let them go.So dont get blinkered by your right to be in primary,it can cause more problems than its worth sometimes,just let them pass,whats the hardship?Just my opinion of course.

You could just as easily argue that's it's no hardship for them to wait a couple of seconds more, they don't have to exert any energy to get up to speed again (other than pressing the right foot down a bit more) whereas we, as cyclists, take sigificantly longer to get the momentum back.

I do this going uphill, just try and trackstand in the space whilst waving them by. Downhill, I don't think I'm holding them up.

This is true,like i said,its just something i dont mind doing,even more so if its a long road,it just winds some drivers up and can cause them to do the get back at you bits, i dont see the point of making drivers attitudes worse towards cyclists if its only going to cost me seconds,do i have more right than them on the roads?I doubt it,and i wouldnt push it if i did,as im the slower and more vulnerable vehicle.

You keep misquoting/misrepresenting us on this one. Whilst we might have different requirements for the decision, I'm sure pretty much all of us on here try to make it easier by pulling in and help other traffic overtake. Most of us on here are also drivers, and feel plenty of sympathy for others.

Im not quoting or representing anyone,its just my opinion,and what i do.why would you think that?Glad to see you agree though.

You are trying to suggest that the "primary brigade" don't consider other traffic, and don't help them get past. I thought that should be challenged, as it doesn't represent what most people on here do.

Im not suggesting anything about others.Thats my own thoughts on it.If you feel my opinion needs to be challenged,fine,but dont assume my thoughts or opinions are directed at the "primary brigade"you mention,you made that connection,not me,i said what i genuinly believe.
Iv said what i said as a way of hopefully making the op aware of other ways of helping to stay safe and hassle free on the roads,its my opinion and a bit of advice that he may choose to use.

Hi, yeah I used to lurk on the YD board.
Haven't done any diving since last year unfortunately, that hobby has had to go hold . I just can't get rid of the gear though, it will come out of semi-retirement soon I hope.

Heathrow is proving to be just too far from the sea and the twinset and gear is a little too heavy to move around by bike. I did however get to spend a week in the Scilly Isles last year, the seals were amazing:

The "local" diving club is made up of people spread all over the South of England who meet up at Portland, so getting a lift with others isn't really possible, there isn't much going on locally and it's expensive to lug the heavy gear to and from Portland....

One day I will return....

That's what I said about 8 years ago...

Got married and had 2 holidays where some diving could have been done.. but wasn't due to one thing or another.

After the kit hadn't been used for nearly 2 years I decided to sell it as it wasn't likely to be used again.

Manchester is not ideal for diving locations within easy reach (not without a 4am start as the club I was with always wanted to get the first dive in wherever we went - less silt stirred up etc.).

I work on the principle that if I am on my way to somewhere specific, like work then I keep going until I get there. If I am leisure riding then I will pull in to let the line past, most of the time I end up catching them up and passing them again anyway so I am not really delaying them at all.
