I did yesterday.

Today was wet down here and so the roads were busier, and people were less patient. A nice lady managed to squeeze past me - despite me being in primary - on the way into a roundabout, already indicating left and braking as she passed. Trouble is, the approach to this roundabout widens to sort-of-two-lanes-look-there's-even-a-dotted-white-line so if people are determined to be a***s there's not a whole lot you can do. Then a DHL van tried to follow her .. he got a glare and backed off.

My ride today went without incident to my self, though it wasn't without incident as van took 75m to overtake a lorry forcing a car partially off the road, this overtake took in a semi-sighted bend. I did stop to help the poor guy pull his car off the verge as the back of the car grounded. So let's not feel completely victimised, there are just some right t*ts out there which can't drive in a responsible manner.

Unusually incident free for me too on my 20 miler round trip to Britain's most over -rated city of Cambridge. Always a relief to get clear of the place to be honest - and in one piece too makes it all the better. I even saw a Volvo indicate- 2nd one this week- amazing. It was indicating left to go right, but at least it's a start! (and it had just roared up to dangerously overtake me just before a T junction where the muppet then sat there dithering blocking my way). So apart from the usual Volvo pricks- no worries.

When I'm cycling *in* Cambridge I find it's not really a hassle, simply because there are so many cyclists. The bit I hate is when you get out of the city itself and into the surrounds as I find that it's as soon as impatient motorists get out of the city where they expect to be travelling slowly that they put the foot on the accelerator and pass a bit too close, too fast in their impatience to get by.

I withdraw my earlier post. I was on the way home, doing just under 30, when some c*** in a 4x4 (what else) overtook me with about 6" to spare. He had a busted passenger-side mirror - a clue that it might be a bit of a habit. I caught up and tapped on the window just as the next lights were going green. He turned left without signalling, which I took to mean he'd decided to go that way to escape me. Not being terribly bright, he didn't figure that it was into the hospital, which is effectively a dead end. If I hadn't been furious, the sight of him driving several times round the car park hoping I'd stop following would have been hilarious. When he eventually gave up and wound the window down I took a deep breath and reined in the expletives. "Do you know," I said, "that you just passed me at not much under 40 with 6" to spare." "Where's your helmet?" said the idiotic creature, waving a hand feebly near his head. "What's that got to do with it?" I asked, quite reasonably. He waved the hand up and down his sternum. "Where's your yellow thing?" Clearly the man is unhinged, unless he'd observed that some canny cyclists strap emergency bananas to their drop handlebars. I said nothing. "You were going too fast," he gibbered. This was too much, so I tried reminding him that he was accelerating to overtaking me in a 30mph limit at the time. There are security cameras at the hospital, so giving him another wing-mirror to match was, sadly, not an option. I contented myself with a summing up which made up in accuracy for what it lacked in wit. "You seem to be some kind of f uckwit," I observed, and left, thinking it likely that the reply would not be worth waiting for.

The cycling's fine. It could be better, but it's better than a lot of places in terms of provision. The cyclists there seem to be really competetive though which I find dead funny. It's more the place really. I feel sorry for any tourists arriving at that dump of a station expecting 'historic Cambridge'. It's permanently traffic clogged, polluted streets etc - just seems such a shame. The planners also seem hell bent on turning it into a place twice as big which will wreck it even further.

All I'll say is... Trumpington Street & Road

In all honesty have a week off & going for rides in the middle of the day has been bliss, I'm up to over 85 miles since Sunday morning & yet to have one problem with people.

He actually drove into the hospital car park to escape you with you following him around. That is very funny.

Rest easy that you've brought the miscreant to justice. He'll think twice next time and probably properly acquaint himself with the local hospital and supermarket car parks in the area
