Well I will need my concentration which is going to be affected by the clowns banging about upstairs.Still it's not the first time in my career that I will go to work knackered.

I wonder how bus drivers cope.Im sure im not the only one.

I'll have a beer for you in sympathy. I'm waiting for my lot to go to bed. Ear plugs don't block out the noise for me. I did try using my MP3 player once really loud instead of earplugs but that just gave me a headache. I've not long got in from a late night ride to Tesco but I'm still not knackered enough to try and sleep and I'm annoyed they didn't have any round lettuce in. I had to buy beer instead.

I use a fan or maybe more than one fan to drown the noise out but I don't know if it will be succesful this morning. It is against the other neighbours shouting next door.I doubt it is as loud as yours but if it stays like this I won't sleep.Im hoping they go soon but it's not looking good.

I have another option and thats go to work mega early which I may have to do and have done once before.Im not on till about 1pm though.

Good luck with yours.

My sympathies. We moved house because drug-dealing scum moved in next door with lurchers that whined all night and an alsation that barked constantly, not to mention the Police raids, the all night music, the "customers" coming and going, the bonfires when they burned the packaging, the litter thrown over the wall, the threats, it was six months of hell. We sold the house too cheap and got out; it has been re-sold four times in the five years since we moved out, thank God we have lovely neighbours now.

Have a look at the Neighbours from Hell in Britain website for some helpful suggestions.

Six hours kip and im off to work. It's a one off at least I hope it is.

It was a riot last night but it's very quiet now.Guess everyone needs a blowout.

I'd agree with others: if a friendly word has failed several times, then video evidence and make a complaint to the council. You can also get a noise meter from Maplins and video the readings.

In the meantime, while foam earplugs are generally useless, wax earplugs are fantastic.

There was some bother next door last night. I first woke up about half two when someone was told not to come disturbing them at that time in the morning, then maybe an hour later there was lots of commotion and shouting about a rolling pin and plenty of Foxtrot Oscars.

No idea what the rolling pin had to do with it but I definitely did hear that correctly

I cant exactly say the neighbours and I get on very well.

I moved from my last place where we had considerate neighbours to our current rented house next door to a pair of "How dare these tenants spoil our house that we have paid for" middle aged couple, with no children.

I like my music. I like to play it reasonably loud from time to time. The first time I tried this (during the day ofc) they were round like a shot, complaining that they can hear my music in their house. I agreed to keep the music down indefinitely, and have done.

Its a shame. Because of them, we now hardly ever listen to music and we are always worried that the tv is too loud when watching a film/TV. Constantly turning the volume up and down to try and hear the films dialogue/programme, but not annoy the neighbours with the loud bits/adverts.

About a year ago the husband was furiously banging on our door as we were playing a little music. Not very loud IMO, barely 1/4 of the volume level possible. He said (very angrily) that he is going to report us to the landlord. We hadn’t played any music for months! We have no other place to play music. So they are invariably preventing us ever playing anything.

I had enough, told him where to go as it was only 20:30 at night. He had no idea there was a cut off point at 23:00, but was all ready to try and get us evicted!

A few weeks ago, we had him (or possibly her?) banging on the walls because our daughter was rattling her cot. WTF am I supposed to do about that!?

We also are unable to put the washing machine on overnight (or later than about 22:30) due to the noise they hear

I think the cut off point is 2330 where I live.

I would never do any housework, hoover or put the washer on after 8pm because I would like to be considerate to my neighbours, so that is reasonable IMO. I only ever play loud music when I know they're out. That is also reasonable as they have young children.

If they were moaning b*stards who wouldn't live and let live once in a while I would stand my ground.

We also started leaving our car out in front of our house as the neighbours had begun letting their relatives park in front of our gates at any time they liked, including overnight, effectively trapping our car on the drive. When I reinsured the car last time, I checked that it was covered for being left on the road overnight instead of on our drive - didn't cost me a penny more.

One morning, before we started doing this, I had to wake the neighbours up at 5.30am to get them to move a car so that Mrs B could get our car out and get to work. They still didn't get the message.

There are some really inconsiderate people out there who given an inch will take several miles.

I've still left my car in front of the drive and Neighbour has come home and deliberately reversed his van to about 2 inches away from my front bumper on purpose (there is plently of space in front of him, about half a car length). I think that's really funny as it's obviously got to him. I think I shall leave it there for about a week just for fun as I did my shopping earlier on and I can cycle to work so don't need to use the car for anything. No doubt he is now also going to play his music louder than normal just to spite me, but I have the video camera all charged up and the number for the local environmental health office ready for Monday morning.
I know it is really immature of me but this is my own little way of getting back at him for being an inconsiderate tw@t.

well our neighbours from hell finally moved(or were evicted) just before Xmas. Cue our Boxing Day house rearranging and our lounge is now back at the front of the house.

From experience I recommend you don't retaliate and get the ball rolling via official channels straight away, I wish I had.

I can't vouch for its effectiveness 100% of the time but throwing a jam jar of my own faeces at my horrendously annoying noisy neighbours' property (a dodgy vehicle workshop) eventually got them to shut up.
