I heard everyone was crashing and I enjoyed it so much last time...

Diesel. What tyres you running?
Conti gator hard shell. They are known to be slippery. Will probably whack a Vittoria Rubino on the front.
Looks like a case of leaning into the corner and left pedal whumped hard down onto the kerb and flipped the bike.

Just look how close he gets to the kerb *before* the wobble starts ... and if that camera is mounted on the right side of the helmet the real position in relation to the kerb is actually closer than it looks.

So don't blame the road ... blame your dodgy positioning. ;)

Nah, I run a long crank arm, It would have to be a very big lean to get pedal strike. Front wheel definitely slipped from under me.

I'm trying Conti Gatorskins at the moment. I would agree they're very slippery. I've had the back wheel spin a few time when pulling away (I ride fixed), and many twitchy moments when the rear wheel seems to be slipping sideways of ridges in the road. Haven't lost it yet, touch wood, but not confidence inducing.

I usually run Pro 3's and they're far more assured. They also puncture, and cut a lot more, hence trying the Gator's.

Around here, since the snow melted, there's still a lot of slippery crud and grime on the roads that needs a good rain shower to be washed away. The roads look dry but are still slippery in places.

Looks nasty, would rather not find out myself but have to ask the question how do the clips unclip? Silly question I know but never figured it out.

Having lost a rear wheel and come off recently on a road that was not icy but covered in that black post-salting surface, I've made a point of seeing how slippery it is when slightly damp - the answer is "very"! Even in trainers with a good grip, this damp black stuff lets you slip your foot easily. I wonder if there are figures to show how much traction is lost under these conditions - they certainly seem to make riding on 23mm racing tyres a highly risky business.

I've come off my bike several times whilst using SPD-SL's. Only once have I stayed clipped in, and that as a clip less moment at no speed.
Every other time you get thrown from the bike.

You spoke too soon . Snowing in Glasgow, then Sunny then Snowing!!!! Strange weather !!!!

Gaz said he runs conti-gator hard shells.
Ditto ... on both my heavy winter and light summer bikes.

I too have had a few slips, the worst being the low speed ones that shouldn't happen, such as
when the side of the tyre catches a 1cm "lip" or step in the road which runs in the direction of travel.
The tyre looses its grip, you're steering into it to "climb" up that lip to no avail ... eventually you fall off.

There's quite a lot of cracked/sunken roads in these parts and i've found the only way to prevent an off in the
above situation is to give a serious meaningful yank on the handlebars to get the wheel up the lip before its too late!

The other one is when the centre of the road is much higher than the outside ... so you're cycling along straight and
level and suddenly the pedal strikes the floor!

If you ignore the hills in the background, the surfaces of some of the fen roads i cycle are like the abandoned A625 in
the peak district:

Have you stayed inside the town? there's been a fair bit around about although not as much as last year and we had a very mild spell in West Fife, until today but even then its been limited to very light and sun/snow showers.

Hope your bike is OK and how are your hips ? I had this happen to me about this time of year three years ago and it took me ages to get any confidence back on cornering.

Depends on how they are adjusted. Hardcore (bonkers) riders have them crancked up so that only a hard roatation of the foot will release them (kick out the heel).

Me, I have mine so loose that a good tug...in any direction...(even vertically) will un-clip. I do tighten then for MTB riding...a little
