I think this will work but am not 100% sure:blush:;)

A mate of mine has given me a Cannondale FS mountain bike to play with because the front shock is siezed, the problem there is that it`s in the stem and not just a case of new forks, so I`m not going to bother to replace it but was thinking of setting the bike up permanently on a trainer.

My question is can a mountain bike be used on a trainer??

Sorry if it`s a daft question, but I haven`t tried to do this before!!

No reason why not. Get a slick tyre on rather than knobblies though!!!!

depends on the type of trainer.

I have one that has the front bit where thre forks go and the rear roller where the rear wheel sits on top of all part of the same frame.

The problem arises in when putting on mountian bike - longer wheelbase, the frame needs to be adjusted to move the two contact points - see above - further apart.

I tried this with a S frame (not my bike, which are L) so I reckon if I tried to fit mine, the trainer would be too short.

The other type of tainer I have seen has the rear wheel and front wheel parts totally spearate so the issue does not arise.

So like I said, depends on the trainer.

this is the second type of trainer - you'll be fine with this one.

here we go, myt type. you can see the frame joining the front and rear parts - there is a limit how far apart they can be. hopefully make more sense now.

... and there is a bit in the centre onto which the BB rests.

So would standing naked in the garden while having muddy water thrown at you.
Mind you, that could count as a decent night out for some people...

don't knock it 'til you've tried it.

I was thinking more of the keeping-you-warm-while-wet-and-muddy properties of lycra, which are apparent only by their absence...
However, don't let me interfere with your fun
