Only a week? What a lightweight. I had eight weeks of cooking with a camping gas stove and microwave in my spare bedroom, and washing up in the bath, while the builders removed an old bathroom and kitchen downstairs and made my new kitchen. It was fun for about ten days, then the novelty wore right off.
No, it's been a week up to now and the plaster's still wet. It will be at least another week so I'm glad I'm away on business from next Wednesday to Friday. We've benefitted time-wise by going with a very reputable company and have had no problems at all so far; all promised schedules have been met or bettered and we've not had any unexpected delays, but not benefitted finance-wise as it was the most expensive of the options available.

We arrived home from holidays to find our heating on the blink. Called 'the man' out and he said to fix the oil boiler would be almost as much as to install gas. So decided to go for that. Gas cant be installed until 4th Sept, then 'the man' will start work on 10th Sept. So no heating from roughly 24th July until at least 10th Sept. This hasnt been a problem up until now as the kids have been off school. But they started back to day and the lack of hot water is a bit of an issue. Theres only so many cold showers my 12 year old daughter will put up with!

What a nightmare few days it's been but today has been the maddest of all so far.

We've had our entire kitchen ripped out down to the breeze blocks and the ceiling torn out, all re-boarded, plastered and was completely bare until half an hour ago. This morning, the scaffolders arrived to next doors with their wagon and all their gear, the binmen came forcing me to navigate my way with the bins past the wagon, then our gardner arrived so no peace at all but then....then the new boxed up kitchen arrived! I felt a bit sorry for the gadgies who had to park a fair way away due to the scaffolders' wagon and the skip on our drive and haul the entire boxed up kitchen from their wagon in to our formerly bare kitchen. I haven't had a second to myself today. And to think, my deman....wonderful wife has paid a sky-high price for all this disruption when I didn't think there was anything wrong with the original kitchen. We've had nothing to cook food on so it's all been sandwiches and take-aways and now we have the weekend ahead of us and no functioning kitchen (they can't fit it until the plaster's bone dry) until this time next bloody week!

We are in a similar position, we’re installing our own kitchen. I had 2 weeks holiday to strip out and install starting 21st July - ready for delivery of new kitchen on 24th July. Stripped out old kitchen and on the 24th less than half of the kitchen that should have been delivered was and some of that was damaged.
We’ve gradually been getting more and more over the past 6 weeks or so and the final bits are due tomorrow. These final bits are the ones that fit in the corners that you need to work away from. So hopefully will only be another couple of weeks of camping gas stove and combination microwave on the floor of the dining room and washing up in the bath as TMN.

is it just me that thinks Donino's pizzas are vastly over-priced and disappointingly under-tasty?
Papa John's are the best of the big chains, but pretty much any burgh with more than one horse has a takeaway that's much better. Better tasting anyway, I can't imagine it's better for you...
