Got into the usual "discussion" on a truckers FB page, where cyclists were getting a hard time. Red light jumping road hogs who don't have tax or insurance etc., we all know the script. There was some support from cycling HGV drivers of course.
Anyway, one trucker was particularly vociferous about ALL vehicles using the road should pay "road tax". I put forward the well worn cyclists side about zero emissions, roads are paid out of general tax, road tax doesn't exist, disabled tax band cars and low emission vehicles. Even the fact that foreign lorries don't pay VED - but no, this guy wasn't for moving. ALL vehicles should pay "road tax". He was getting quite agressive about it; so I had a look at his profile and saw a picture of a car he bought, and still owns.....

Having some fun now, winding him up about his 1972 VED exempt car (with expired MOT, and "taxed" at zero rate until March) .......

Too far away for me, he's one of them suvverners from somewhere south of Gretna.
Wouldn't do that to such a nice car; just a pity the owner is such a nobber. My short lived visit to their "closed page" is now over as the admins decided to delete all my good work regarding the issue about "all vehicles on the road should pay road tax" and then having all his credibility shot down in flames. One nil to the good guys though .. He wasn't the sharpest tool in the box methinks.

A couple of years ago I cycled round the route with the cars, on the Puch Alpine which I owned at the time. Not sure who struggled more with the climb at Meggetts; me or the old cars.

I would love to meet Melvin the Rover V8 owner in person, especially if I am on a bike. For my part I would try to keep it good humoured though - not so sure about him!

Almost identical to my P6, except mine was a '71 and had a vinyl roof. That was tax exempt too, which was just as well because after paying for the fuel the kitty was bare.
