Wohoo, I'll be out later in my 4x4 showing the regular 2wd drivers why they made such a crap choice of car

Oh, this is a gift, I was going to post this story and see if you popped up in a strop.

Turned my Maximus trike up a terraced street this morning to see a 4x4 wedged across the road further up, front in the gutter, rear wheels spinning helplessly on the snow just short of the top of the camber. Completely stuck, trying to do a 3 point turn. (a completely pointless thing to do anyway in a narrow street, when the driver could simply have driven down the road a bit and turned right and right again onto a parallel road to get back to the main road).

I called my bosses attention to it, and we debated whether to go up and offer to pull it out with our trikes, but really, we were laughing too much, we were turning down a side road before it, and we had a job to get on with.

To be fair, it was obviously a crap driver as much as the vehicle, since I watched the wheels spin at least 4 times, without the vehicle moving at all, so they were just digging themselves deeper and deeper...

Funnily, I didn't see any other vehicles of any sort stuck today!

Does anyone else like snow then?

Yes, me. I was out working in it all day, but I still like it, I still get that childish feeling of 'oooooh!' when I open the curtains and see it.

I opted to walk in this morning, as it was still snowing, and the bike would have just got clogged up. I'll ride tomorrow though.

(I did ride in it today, but on 3 wheels, the best way).

Had the first bit of snow of the winter here this lunch time - about 2mm and most of it promptly melted.

However - cycling back from the gym saw a Toyota 4x4 driver showing off, so waited for him to get out of the way. He didn't - he just didn't understand that the laws of physics apply to 4x4s just as they do to everything else, and he now has a very large repair bill &/or lack of NCB courtesy of one of the trees beside the road.

:ohmy:;):laugh::biggrin::laugh::biggrin::laugh::biggrin::laugh:

Of course I didn't laugh. Out loud anyway.

But most 4x4's aren't proper ones - come with massively wide road tyres and the drivers some how think they are invincible...ha...ha.... give me a Landy any time....

PS I was overtaking all cars this morning..... MTB's are better than Landy's - I had a good smirk at them stuck in traffic jams due to cars getting stuck on the slightest gradient...

You must be the cycling equivalent of a LANDY.

Snow chains would be a waste of money. Let's face it, we don't normally get snow and certainly not enough where chains would actually work.

Last significant snowfall worthy of chains was 15 years ago.

However, scooting past a wheel-spinning, £30k 4x4 whilst on a £50 MTB is priceless!

I love the snow to, makes life that bit more challenging, Although getting to the top of the hill a long drag of about a mile this morning on the first mile of my commute was not so good as when I went to change up I discovered my rear changer ( bike only has 8 gears) was frozen so I had to ride the rest of my commute 4.5-5 miles in first gear ( water in cable, my lovely son had uncovered the bike the other day !) Then worked outside all day, when you work outside you soon get to appreciate the bad weather as much as the so called good. When I came out of work I found it had defrosted and was fine. Tonight I am keeping it in the kitchen to dry out. And will add some WD/oil in the morning to try and keep the frosting at bay
FUN FUN FUN ! Never mind Ice road Truckers!

One of the best things about the snow was the admiration we got for just going out and doing our job - collecting recycling, using Maximus trikes. Several people said we were brave, one called me an angel (for waiting while she got her box out of the garage, having assumed we wouldn't come today). Two people offered us hot drinks (declined, but a nice thought), and one bloke said "Isn't that the definition of slave labour?" (no, I said, we do get paid....).

Much preferable to working in the rain, when everything is sopping wet, and a half full tin can of rain tips itself down your sleeve.

And you can leave pretty wiggly tracks in the snow. The really brave (not me) can also do handbrake turns....

And there's little more beautiful than a tree on which every branch and twig has a little hat of snow....

I LOVE IT!!! I've been out sledging on the moor since Xmas with the kids (along with apprentice skiers, students sitting on 'For Sale' signs etc.

Not been on the bike much in the last two weeks though - watching the motons drive into each other and walls etc doesn't inspire confidence - I would be OK on the bike, but I got driven in to in broad daylight before all this started, so I wouldn't trust the fools.

On the bright side, the insurance paid in full for replacement bike, jacket and helmet, so it's NEW BIKE TIME. WOOHOO:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:
