The mounting is the only think that concerns me, I wanted to mount it on my helmet but there's no way to do that without looking ridiculous.

Put it on the side using the optional Sony mounts or as I did with heavy duty velcro

Don't suppose you could share a picture? I used to have the Contour on the side of my helmet but it was just too heavy.

No sorry. It is a bit heavy but not to bad I just gave everything a good clean then stuck the velcro to the waterproof case and the side of the helmet, because the helmet is curved I used a small off cut of velcro rolled up as a spacer then put a small cord through the top of the case and the helmet vents to catch it if it fell off but so far after going out in rain sun being hit by the odd tree branch and taking a bad fall when I was hit by a car it`s held for several months.

If your not sure about the weight you could just try taping it on to see what it feels like. If you think it is over heavy one of the Sony mounts holds the camera but without the waterproof case.

I mounted mine on the side using the headband mount, I have seen a couple of other cyclists in Swindon doing the same, doesn't look great but better than on top.

Closed it's doors last week. Couldn't take on the big boys GoPro. I suspect that they will get bought out and it will re-open.
It did not look good when GoPro and Sony launched cameras with more powerful sensors at a time when Contour launched an expensive camera still using a dated 5MP sensor.
Apparently Contour had some interesting new products on the way, so maybe it will be resurrected.

I think I'm just going to get a bar mount for it. I'm also thinking about getting the WiFi model since it's only £20 more and it will let me angle my shots better.

I bar mount my camera when I do not wear a helmet, on leisure rides at the weekend.

A long watch but a good one

A summary is that the Hero 3 is more expensive, worse in low light, worse at daytime and the only benefit is that you get to use GoPro mounts.

I think I'm going for the Sony Action Cam, I haven't decided whether to go Wifi or not.

Any views on the Drift Ghost HD?

It's difficult to compare this camera to the gopro 3 black based on YouTube comparisons because the gopro delivers its image in raw mode and the uncorrected video looks poorer than the Drift footage.

That said, the Drift footage looks sharper and unless you specifically want your footage raw, the colour adjustment of the Drift looks excellent, as does it's low light ability. It also has the rotating lense feature of the contour and better reported battery life.

It's pricey though at £299 (still cheaper than the gopro black).

Wifi chews the battery life of the camera and the phone. IMO it offers no value and I don't use it any longer.

I thought it would be good for angling the shots, it doesn't have to be on all the time, does it?

It would be useful for that but switching the Wifi on/off just becomes another extra step in the process. I have found that when you film daily from a fixed mount position, then all you want to do is press and go.

With the wide angle lenses on these camera's I don't find much use for the viewfinder outside of my fixed mount use. Simply pointing the camera at what I want to film is good enough for me. That's just my view though, others may want more control over the image captured.

I'm quite keen on the wifi. I think that it would be good to see what I'm filming. I know that with my Contour, I've filmed stuff which I thought was in shot and I've ended up missing some good footage because the camera was misaligned. For £20 more, it seems worth it IMHO.

I have a Contour Plus with wifi and a Sony with wifi but I never use it.
