I need a USB cable - no data, power only

I think this is a DIY bodge job but if anyone knows where I can buy one then that'd be helpful.

I need a USB cable to charge my smartphone from my Dahon (dynohub rechargeable) external battery. The supplied cable works fine from a computer USB port because 'puter is intelligent. It doesn't work with the Dahon though. The Dahon can deliver sufficient power (is used to power iPhones etc) so I want to try something - disconnecting the data pins on the USB cable. Obviously I don't want to do it to the cable I have.

So I need to by another std USB to (Samsung) micro-USB cable. Does anyone know if they can be bought with a 'power only' pin connections? Or are they all data too?

If the Dahon only supplies power then the data pins won't be connected.

Why would the Dahon battery need data? If you charge the phone from a car fag lighter then there's no data so.

Obviously it doesn't... I think you're thinking about this the wrong way around.

The only USB cable I have that fits the phone is the Samsung supplied data sync cable. That obviously works for recharging from a computer but not from the Dahon. So I want to try a cable without data connections to see if that will work.

That's what I mean, I use a Samsung data cable in the car that doesn't have data & it charges the phone fine.

I use a Samsung data cable in the car that doesn't have data & it charges the phone fine.

I think I see the confusion.

I mean physically, the data pins within the cable are not connected , or shorted out. Not that the device connected isn't sending data. I think what is happening is the phone is going into 'data mode' (even though there is no data) because it's detecting a data cable. This prevents it charging from the Dahon. It's a known issue with some GPSs running on external batteries, and it's resolved by having a cable that has the data pins shorted.

I appreciate your cable works but it's not the same set-up as mine. Your connected to a 12v car battery, the Dahon is 5v.

It's an experiment that may well fail. It maybe that the Dahon is simply not kicking out enough 'oomph' to charge the phone.

No, USB is 5V. Ignore the 12V

IT may be lack of current but if iPhone's work then it's probably not that

Edit.
Wrong info.
Just looked up the usb standard and its 5v.

I realise USB is 5v. My point is that they're different set-ups so we can't usefully compare.

It could well be current related but the specs of both phone and Dahon indicate that it shouldn't be. Hence me wanting to try the cable hack.

How are they different setups? USB is 5V. Mine is sourced from a car at 12V but the Dahon won't be 5v native anyway.
