I need help

I was rather pleased - not to say surprised - by my own maturity last week when I got passed for the first time ever since I got my fixie, 'cos I've always ridden very aggressively and taken great pride in the fact that no-one beats Swee'pea. I got beat, no two ways about it, by a guy on a Condor, and to my surprise it didn't aggrieve me, just made me laugh. Partly I guess 'cos I had an excuse...on a fixie, there really is a limit to how fast you can spin - if he's got the legs, a guy with gears is always going to beat you in the end.

I think if we're all honest, most of us get a bit narked when overtaken.

But hey, I have a hot man at home and a love life so exhausting I haven't got the time or energy to build up my speed.

I don't mind a bit of a race but agree with Tynan - most races stop here due to traffic lights and I tend not to do things that are unsafe but have watched a few fellas nearly crash into the back of cars cause of trying to race.

However, this whole thing of being overtaken doesn't bother me - there are sections of my old commute (sadly not commuting at the moment) that I'd race as

a) clearish road
Usually loads of cyclists about-many up for a sprint

if someone wants to cycle past I usually catch them up and then they'll RLJ anyway to get an advantage -that to me is just sad.

It comes down to the fact that I know I am fast (when at my best-far from it now!lol)and I don't need to prove anything to them or myself - besides if you like to race - save that for competitive cycle racing!

the most important thing is to mind your appearrance and try to looked relaxed and casuel whilt doing it , a smile and some encoragement to your victim is good condut too lol,at least those that pass me do this (the f!"£$&^$£"£^)
