I wouldnt know about pocket money i have been working since shortly after i left school and have been self employed for the last few years. It sounds like you have a lot more experience of living within the restraints of pocket money than me.

Ashame the college loan didnt seem to do you any good, instead of coming out of college all eager to take on the world you are happy to settle on crap pay and thinking of how to get out of paying back your college loan, great.

Well, here's the thing. I'm happy, I'm relatively secure, and I'm planning to spend the rest of my life doing stuff I like. That makes me a winner, in my book.

Anyway, at 40, I've done my share of taking on the world, and it's generally shoot, so I'm not going to bother any more....

It's the old "do you eat to live or live to eat" argument. Arch (quite rightly) has realised that there's more to life than simple material things, and overall quality of life is more important. Maybe one day others will also reach enlightenment.

It's a lesson we'd all do well to try and learn.

There is, you know, more to life than money.

I agree - money on its own will never make someone happy. At the bottom end of the scale - lack of it can certainly make people unhappy, but once you are past a certain point, does acquiring that new thing that you simply can't live without make you happier for more than a few moments? Far more important are things like friends, family and health.

Not with an attitude like that, pretty much what is wrong with the people in this country to many people happy to be losers.

Unfortunately I would class you as the loser with you're comments in this thread. I gave up on a £60k a year job that I didn't like to do a £18k a year job I do like  Money means nothing to me but happiness means a great deal

My situation exactly.

blazed, you are full of the misguided confidence of youth. Make the most of it. Fortunately, you still have plenty of time to learn.
