I was waiting in the ASL in King William St heading towards Moorgate when I became aware of a Motorbike being ridden agressively and heading towards me from the off side and just managed to miss me.

Me: Oiiiii
Biker: What?!!!
Me: There is no need for that kind of Riding
Biker: I pay Road Tax and I can do what I effing want!!!
Me: There is no such thing as a Road Tax (in a calm voice)
Biker: His jaw dropped and didn't know what to say.
Me: Honestly, no one pay Road Tax since 1937. Look it up if you want.
Me: By the way, why are you so angry? Swearing and Shouting at me.
Biker: No, I wasn't angry..
Me: Yes, you were.

Off he went to the next set of lights and I'm happy that I managed to put my point across.

I can't beleive there are Road users like this as this is my first time I had this argument.

Perhaps we can have something similar to the "God Kills a Kitten everytime a Cyclist RLJs". We can have a sticker like "There is No such thing as Road Tax" on Lamp Posts.

Don't have stickers, but have got jerseys for the ironically-named iPayRoadTax campaign.

http://ipayroadtax.com/?page_id=2 Jerseys available from Foska or, in a couple of weeks, any of the 36 branches of Evans Cycles.

Site has tons of info on why it's not 'road tax'.

You may also enjoy this helmetcam video of a Manchester couple abusing a cyclist for 'no pay, no say':

The end of 'road tax' (1909-1937) was started by Winston Churchill in 1926. The oddly fascinating history of 'road tax' - and why it's a loaded term - can be found at http://ipayroadtax.com/?p=54

Is it just me being too mean to pay Road Tax?

I would love one of those jerseys but the price is close a Motorbike's VED. Is the object profit or to get as many as possible on our gorgeous torso's to push the point home?

You shouldn't be surprised as most motorists, because it's called Road Tax, think that it's to maintain the roads. I think the Govt wants them to believe this also, so they get away with another 'stealth tax'.

I certainly did until I started cycling last year and found out from this website.

Wow, that Video says it all doesn't it? Brainless couple! The idea to include who pays for the Road in the Driving Test is an excellent idea.

I also love one of those Jerseys in black but a bit too pricey for me. ;)

The naming of it is irrelevant. It may be wrong, but many people call it that

I have a better answer - "Yes I do pay Road Tax [or VED or whatever you call it] on my both my two cars. But I am not driving them today, thereby reducing the motor vehicle traffic that would otherwise be on the road in front of you"

The site was started after a Twitter conversation. Nick Buick said he was thinking of sticking his car tax disc to his jersey to prove to motorists he did, in fact, pay VED. I went for a ride and came back with the idea for jerseys. I thought I'd make 30 or so for just those interested on Twitter. I then got a deluge of orders. I couldn't cope so licensed the design to Foska.

45 quid is reasonable for a quality jersey, I reckon. Been too cold to go out without a jacket on recently but when it warms up it'll be fun to see motorist reactions, when more cyclists display the Bicycle Excise Duty discs.

Those who buy the jersey can get a £10 Foska voucher if they take a pic of the jersey being worn in a mass start event (Critical Mass or sportive) and then send it in. So, thirty quid for a jersey ain't so bad.
