For a start, there are the obvious "snags" we have with cars as cyclists - goes without saying.

I live close to a through road, fair play, it was here before I was, but when I bought this house the road used to go quiet at night, it doesn`t any more, at 3am I can look out my bathroom window and the tin shed loving fraternity are still at it...................

As for my neighbours, I get woken up, regular as clockwork, every bloody morning, with the same orchestra - doors slamming, boots slamming, the constant "ningningningningning" of the bloody things that seem to get started and left for 2 hours, my next door neighbour who starts his diesel VW Passat with his foot to the floor every time he starts the sodding thing:evil: And don`t start me off on the subject of the chavs with the boom boom boom boom that everybody within a 1000 mile radius has to listen to.

I find the amount of crap, dumped from car windows in the hedge, mentioning no names MCDONALDS, really infuriating.

And as for my own 2 cars - I have no time for them either, money pits.

I`ve finished for now that I have that off my chest...................

It is quite simple, you are becoming an old, moaning git, intolerant of youth and their ways. Welcome to the club, there are many of us.

There are far too many out there! Where the feck are they all going? i ask myself frequently. Even what used to be quiet on the roads mid day rides are now affected by cars up my backside, cars overtaking me, only for them to stop and give way to other cars, etc etc. If i didn't need a car to carry my work stuff i'd get shut. I do about 40 miles a week driving and about 140 cycling.

I couldn't agree more. Cars are noisy, smelly, unhealthy, and expensive, and I'm pretty fed up with them also. My neighbours (unless some of them get up at stupid-o'clock like me) probably don't even notice me leaving for work at 4:45am. I just get on the bike, not slamming any doors, not revving any internal combustion engine, turn on the headlights, and start pedaling without any fuss.

Cars are ok.It's the people driving them who aren't.

Me and Mrs P have just moved house for a lot of the similar reasons to this.
We bought our first house by a road, it was relatively quiet and would be dead at night. Five years later there are trucks hammering down it all through the night, obligatory chavs in their lowered corsas until about 3am and scooters on their new small capacity learner motorbikes with tin can exhausts. It got to the point where we couldn't sleep.

Couldn't go into the back garden, it had began to sound like we were sitting next to the M4.

feck that.

Shame cos the old girl next door to us was the best neighbour we have ever had.
