Lots of fly tipping round here, piles of blue bottles everywhere!

Seriously it’s a real pain and it’s often volunteers who tidy it up. No excuse, but the rules on using the tips seem to encourage such behaviour according to the trades people we use.

The worst case I've seen was a camp of gypsies using the field they were on as the dumping ground for an illegal waste disposal racket. I reported it to the council, but they weren't interested as soon as they realised it was private land.

The most brazen case was a video on Twitter of a truck dumping a load in the middle of a residential street in London whilst a passer by filmed them doing it.

Worst case I've seen was in Bradford at what was MFI, yes that long ago, where a group of travellers were selling supposedly Persian rugs, however they wouldn't leave as the local population were buying them in droves, when MFI finally had them evicted, they had 2 blokes in biohazard suits cleaning up all the fly tipped crap, which included building & garden waste, rubbish stripped off scrap metal, ashes from fires, and dead dogs from organised dog fights along with human waste, it must have cost MFI a fortune in lost trade & clearing that lot up, then where we used to live they got on the local recreation ground, again leaving rubbish and crap everywhere including a partially burnt out stolen car

To be fair to travellers there are some that are OK

There was uproar locally a few years ago when a dozen or so caravans and lorries appeared on the park across the road from us

Lots of comments about - you know the things

anyway - the leader of the group rang the local paper and said they would be there for a few days then were moving on
and would leave the park as they found it
You can imagine the comments in the paper - the ones that were not deleted

Anyway - they left when they said they would and the counsel send a couple of truck of worked round to clear up

They had nothing to do

no only had they cleared up from themselves - and made sure not to damage the grass
they had also set their kids out to litter pick the whole part of the park they were on

The counsel got the paper to publish a short statement saying this and thanking the travellers for their attitude
And that they were putting some bollards in place to stop any other caravans in future!

but some are better than others

Brilliant, so pleased to read that . If all travelling groups did that there would be far less animosity .

I noticed a week ago that there had been fly tipping on one on my cycle routes, quiet and out of the way. Today I see that it has been added to, white goods now and a mattress on the other side of the road. It makes me sad and what possesses people to do it ? We were always taught to respect other people and their property. Now, the local farmer at his expense has to clear it up as if farming is not hard enough as it is.
