I did the Tour de mon last Sunday, only 40 miles mind but I also have prostate problems due to my age. Monday morning, come what may, I just couldn't wee, no matter how much I tried. In the end, I was in agony and rang my doctor who told me to go straight to A&E. They fitted a catheter and the relief was a bless. The trouble is, I have to wear the bloody thing 24/7 and it is horrible. I am due back at the urology clinic in the next couple of days for an assessment. I hope I will be back to normal then as I take tablets to reduce the enlarged prostate. I will also ask them to remove it or at least take a bit off it, after all, one can live without it. Of course, in the meantime, no cycling for me. Getting old is no fun, believe me!

I think the catheter was one of the worst aspects of heart surgery. I felt so much better when it was taken out. Hopefully it will all be sorted soon for you Gavroche

GWS having a catheter inserted is one of the most unpleasant things that has happened to me, the fitting of a pin into my Femur was at least done under anaesthetic although when they removed it and put me a bigger pin in recently I was offered an epidural, I declined and went for the full 'out of it'

I do hope all goes well and you can get back riding soon! It must have been agonizing!

I asked my doc last year when I went in for an MOT if she checks for prostate issues.. She said that unless I have any pointers towards a problem, ie, retention or peeing a dribble several times overnight etc., she wouldn't check for problems. Fortunately, so far, I have been alright..

That sounds horrible @gavroche . I was diagnosed with an enlarged prostate a few years ago after "that" test ; but so far no symptoms as bad as you describe - just an inability to drink any more than 2 pints without spending the rest of the night in the pub toilet , and unable to get more than about 5 hours undisturbed sleep. GP is pretty much unconcerned though.
