I thought this bus was going to take me out.

A big shortage in traffic, which i like on the flats and uphill. However i miss it on the downhills for the filtering. I always like some filtering.
Was about 1mile from home when it went sour.
A corner I thought was wide enough for safe overtakes so i stuck to secondary.
A Bus tries to overtake and pulls in on me. I then sharply move left into the bus stop for safety.
The bus drove right over where I would have been.
Would hate to take that bus on a corner where a bus stop was not there, it wouldn't have turned out well for me. 100% sure knock off.
Close call.

Good thing no one wanted to get off at the next bus stop. The encounter would be I suspect ungentlemanly like

I'm no braver than the next rider, but this incident looks a bit feeble to me.

Close-ish pass which could have been sorted by a dab on the brakes or just by stopping pedalling.

Hmmmm. Yes from the video. it doesn't look particularly close, but then I've looked back on some of my videos and sometimes a close pass doesn't look too bad, and sometimes a safe pass can look like a bad one.

Again though, the bus driver is a 'professional', and I would never dream of overtaking in that situation. Why?
A/ I'd be passing a little too close to the cyclist.
B/ If I wait just a few seconds, the road opens up, and therefor a safer overtaking opportunity is available.
C/ Has anyone else notice the car waiting to pull out form the road on the right. The bus crosses the white lines, if the car had pulled out (which a 'professional' driver must allow for) then what happens? Either the car ends up in the side of the bus. OR the bus has to swerve left into the cyclist. Admittedly, the car was turning right. If they had been signalling left, even more chance of them pulling out.
After viewing the video a few times, I'd say that yes, the bus driver didn't allow enough room, but far more dangerously, he (or she?) really should not overtake when there's a car waiting to pull out, just in case. This would undoubtedly be an immediate test failure.

I understand the perception of it not looking close.
That was due to me surrendering my position bit by bit. I could see the overtake was going to end up bad so i was moving left to create space, moving into my buffer zone. Then the driver turned to match the corner moving totally into me,at this point i shout woo, as i didn't know how far he/she was going to turn in. If you look forward to where my line i would have took the turn the bus is there. I move immediately left into the bus stop. The slow motion shows best, if you take a center point on the video, you can see that i move left.

It looks close to me! Pretend the yellow bus stop line is a kerb, and you'll see how much room Dan has to play with. The only reason there wasn't a collision is that Dan anticipated the move and slowed down, which he shouldn't have had to do.

I doubt I would filter down a gap that size in stationary traffic its that small.

It is a problem with wide angle lenses giving the illusion of things being further away than they are in reality.
Having part of the bike in shot to give some perspective helps, otherwise you are relying on people using the road markings/furniture.

Yup far far too close and you have to move left, the wide angle lenses we use to capture as much info as possible often distort how close things are, relative speed plays a big part as well you'll filter close to stationary traffic as there's no real danger but a bus/wagon at 20-30 mph is a killer.

Again for drivers who think they "gave enough room" they should see how it feels first hand.

I made the report the 2/2/13
I sent a chase email 13/2/13 saying that its taking longer than there normal 5 days response time to fully investigate.
Its the 19/2 well over three weeks since I made the reporting and I still dont have any outcome from the company.
Should i send another chase email or wait a bit longer? Would it seem pushy to send another chase email?
