If people beep me then I just stare. I have got to the point where I wont retalliate unless someone actually shouts at me or drives dangerously.
On an up note, I actually havent had that many bad drivers recently. The cold weather must be making them take more notice because today I only had one close pass and one driver overtake on double whites. Otherwise it has been quite peaceful around here. Its nice to just enjoy cycling and get the chance to practice negotiating things on the roads without people harrassing you.

Taking a strong position is one option, but it isn't going to keep someone from trying to overtake when they shouldn't.
I suspect a primary position would not have affected the driver of this vehicle, they still would have tried to barge past.

True that- even if they go the wrong side of the island, there's just no telling some people!

i have found the backwards palm method works, seeing a stop signal makes their brain get off autopilot and think about what they're doing

I remember doing this kind of manoeuvre on Bikeability 3. (We werent advised to hold up a backwards palm) There were 5 of us cycling in line in primary approaching a pinch point........it took the motorist the time it took to pass 4 of us before they realised 'doh, I've got no where to go!' They ended up having to wait for all of us to pass then get back in line behind us  Some people like to make life hard for themselves I think. If they had waited in less than 50 yards we were turning left anyway

Did you watch the videos?
The idea is that you can stay secondary but put your hand palm up or down like me and gaz and this informs traffic not to overtake. In doing this the driver should not overtake and you dont have to move intro primary while going through a pinch point.

Ah I see it now. hand out at 7s, carpasses you at 8s with someone close on his tail. I do the same thing but give a far earlier signal and more time for the driver to react.

Thats what I do. If there is a stream of traffic, I will look behind the car that is overtaking me at the time and signal to them to wait behind. They usually do.

Half of those weren't even close passes, how much room do you want? A couple of those honks, you were quite frankly being a nobber! One day someone is going to stick that horn up your arse and blow your kidneys out with it!

Calm down, calm down. I know its late at night but there is no need for that.

Bear in mind that this was the May compilation and I have had plenty of people say exactly the same as you. I now look at my close passes very differently and the September compilation has genuine close passes in it.

I dont mind you saying "Most of those werent that close" but you were quite rude frankly.

Glad you are able to detect rudeness, now apply it to your behavior on the road with that damn horn!
