...at home. I never thoughts I'd say that!

The snow was a good few inches thick on my street, but it was just mildly slushy on the main roads nearby, so I thought I'd go for it. The first couple of miles weren't too bad (East Dunbartonshire). It was only once I got into Glasgow that I realised my mistake! Lots of slippy slush everywhere!

However, it got worse, heading in to Anniesland from Bearsden Road, coming downhill, I suddenly noticed that I didn't just have slush and snow to contend with, but a large diesel spill as well. It went all the way down the hill to Anniesland cross.

So there I was in the middle of moderate traffic, going downhill, with absolutely no chance of stopping! There was a lot of swearing!

Then I noticed a traffic queue ahead as the road leveled out a bit. Queue, judicious use of the brakes. One mistake and I was off!

Luckily I managed to slow and stop in time. That was NOT fun.

I have of course reported the diesel. Take care out there, or take the car!

I must admit, I might be finding an alternative way of getting home.....

Just goes to show how lucky we are in London and the South East. Not a drop of snow thank gawd, but it is very cold.
Glad to hear you are ok and yep, best use alternative transport home.

Not the wisest of decisions using a road bike...........

We've not got any snow, but you won't catch me anywhere near a road bike in these conditions - the roads were white with a very heavy frost this morning - lots of ice too - got off the roads as soon as possible.

Diesel and slush - ergh !!!!!

To be fair, had the roads been free of slush (which they were during the bad weather last winter) then it would have been fine. I get off and walk on side roads.

I just assumed that Glasgow City Council would have been on the ball.....silly me!

I chose the car this morning. Took me 1 hour 20 mins to get in for what takes me under 25 mins on the bike.

As I was sat in the traffic jam I couldn't help berate myself for wimping out. Especially as I saw an old man trundle past on a bone shaker and dissappear into the distance.

Will I wimp out again tomorrow?

Probably.

I need some studded tyres.

Nasty Dr M!

Still a balmy -1C here this morning but only a hard frost - no snow.

I've been very circumspect about taking the bike out over the last couple of days as I don't want a repeat of my black-ice offing in January. Rode in today for the first time since last Wednesday and it was ok but I was extra-vigilant for ice and other road-based lubricants.

That's it.Im looking into studded tyres for the spare bike.

I don't suppose you can get them in 700 x 25 then?

So I guess it's a mtb in the future.

I got the train this morning. Roads had been gritted but just slushy tyre tracks at 6am. Was nice to first foot snow on way to station though

I left it today the roads are gritted, but I prefer to stay away from the traffic and the paths were covered in snow.

+1. The cycle paths along the edge of the carriageway are full of snow here - either the grit didn't reach them or there hasn't been enough use of them to get rid the snow. The net effect is that the few cyclists I've seen are being forced to either move further to the right into the 'main' carriageway, which has already been narrowed by the cycle path in the first place, or use the pavement - which is covered in ice/snow.

Bus for me until this weather has gone by.

That's my problem. Both my bikes have 700 x 25 and I'm not sure they would take the 35mm tyres you need for the studs. Money's too tight to get another bike!

I don't know what it is about diesel spills today...

My commute always seems to be liberally doused in the sodding stuff, but today it was far worse than usual. It made for a very cautious journey in. At least there wasn't any slush and little frost to contend with. I do wonder where it all comes from.

Glad to hear you survived, Magnatom!

I almost considered the MTB, but couldn't be arsed with switching the lights over and re-installing the pannier rack.

Plus, didn't fancy 12 hilly miles with trail tyres. Drove in.
