Might give Ma Bollo a ring tonight. She's from the same area of Manchester as one of their victims and was around the same age at the time. She remembers the fear and anger in the community and it still upsets her.
The pointy end of mental health is something of a family business. Pa Bollo worked at a high-security mental hospital after he left the RAF and his brother and nephew have both worked at Broadmoor. Pa B loved the job and liked some of the patients, even though they were very damaged people who'd often done terrible things. The few he genuinely despised were like Brady, who were superficially functional but otherwise narcissistic, unfeeling, cruel and manipulative.
Pa B never crossed paths with Brady, but I doubt anyone who did have dealings with him will mourn his passing.
