I was just thinking of adding this to my Christmas list (althouh copies seem a little rare), has anybody read it and is it any good,
? Great pity that the poor chap should get run over by a motorist in Greece at the age of 74 though.

Seems to be out of print. I did notice that Amazon buyers seem to like Alistair Humphreys http://www.amazon.co.uk/Moods-Futur...m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=0Q28BGNH7T03TYVGNF0G

I've read "Into the remote places", I enjoyed it.

It's split into three sections, Darien gap, North Africa & Peru, stories of I suppose his three most challenging rides or parts of rides.

It makes you realize how tough he must have been both physically & mentally.

A sad way for his life to end, though it was while doing what he loved best, maybe not a bad way to go.

I had a brief google for second hand copies.
The only place I found wanted $2000 :eek::smile:

I have ordered a copy from my local library. Try yours. They can "inter-library" loan it for you.
They search ALL uk libraries for a copy. Got hold of some very out of print stuff in the past.

eBay madness

Bit of an old thread, but a copy of "into the remote places" has recently sold on eBay for 47.53, to now be re-listed by the buyer "bibliobod" with a "buy it now" price of 225

Mad or what ?

I was alls o thinking of getting in touch whith Mercian manuals. I bought a second hand copy of Beryls book for £70 off Amazon. I think Mercian manuals are on to a winner re printing these sought after out of print books.

I had an interesting natter with them about Personal Best. They were lucky in being able to trace the family, so there is some material that wasn't in the original.

It's a true cottage industry. They construct books in the traditional way, set up in bunches of pages then sewn all the way through, rather than just gluing them all onto a spine. That's going right back to Gutenberg! They have a compact and expensive piece of kit which means they can do a print run as small as a dozen if they want.

They are actively looking for out-of-print titles which might still have a steady niche readership and I feel businesses like theirs should definitely be supported.
