What’s the consensus?

Large number of other alcoholic drinks have ice in without worries of diluting. Spririts, whiskies, rums, wines, ciders

We have these giant ice bollock things that have great ice balls that cool the drink with minimal melting.

So one of these in a lager that I forgot to cool?

Beardy weirdies who only drink beer that requires a knife and fork need not apply.

Some may commit this heinous crime. I do not.
A hard no.

Sticking something in might encourage the carbon dioxide to come out of solution and make the lager flat ?

I'd not put anything solid in a pint, unless it was a pint of whiskey and coke. I'd go for wrapping it in wet paper towel and sticking it in the freezer. or like a true Englishman I'd drink it at room temp

Adding a large amount of ice to a drink reduces the dilution because the large amount of ice cools the drink to near freezing, hence reducing the temperature delta.

A large ball of ice will be a large thermal mass but also has the lowest surface area to volume ratio, again reducing the propensity to melt.

Dilution is directly proportional to cooling ability. A big ball of ice won't dilute so much but will also not cool as much as many smaller blocks of ice.

Just keep your beer in the fridge.

Yes I get the physics. Little melting but slower cooling. But a good compromise to cool the drink with minimal dilution.

It worked well.
