A couple of things:
I just got back from Cambridge. It wasn't icy or gritty, but it was cold. And wet. And miserable.
My journey back (in the car) took twice as long as usual, because of road closures caused by accidents. Firstly a section of the M11 was closed so I headed off onto the A10, and then found a section of that closed too. The way other people were driving in the appalling weather makes accidents inevitable; it's really galling to be delayed because some tosser who can't drive sensibly has crashed but it's a whole lot better than actually being involved in the accident itself.
